What Leads to the Abandonment of a Piece of Property?
There are several reasons why a property could be abandoned. We get referrals for homes that appear to be abandoned, but upon closer inspection, we discover that the owners are actually still living, have relocated, and are happy to allow their property to deteriorate. But the most common reason for an abandoned property is the owner's passing. If the deceased has no close friends or family, they might remain on the land for some time after they pass away. Even after they have been removed, councils rarely make an effort to locate the deceased's next of kin. Even if the name appears on the council website's list, the property will remain vacant for years if the family cannot be found and contacted.
